Shows scenes on the bark and the supply ship Eleanor Bolling as the ships sail through ice floes. The bark is anchored at the Ross Barrier and supplies unloaded. Adm. Byrd explores ice crevasses. Sleds and dogs are lifted across crevasses. Reel 2, a Ford airplane (the Floyd Bennett) is unloaded and pulled across the ice. Huts are built deep in the snow and connecting tunnels dug. The camp is buffeted by a blizzard. Dogs curl up against the wind. Reel 3, snow is shoveled from the campsite. The City of New York departs for New Zealand. Men ski. Seals play on the ice. A Fokker plane is gassed and takes off on an exploratory trip. The Fokker is wrecked by blizzard winds and the party stranded. Reel 4, a Fairchild plane is readied and flown to the rescue. Byrd greets the stranded party. Shows network of tunnels at Little America. Reel 5, men with torches explore the barrier ice. Members present a stage show (dancers, strong men, etc.). Men read radiograms from home, take baths, and are shaved. Reel 6, supply caches are placed along the route of the Polar flight. Shows aerial views of ice, snow, and water; dog sleds crossing the ice; and penguins greeting the party. Reel 7, snow is shoveled from around the Floyd Bennett, the motors started, and the plane taxied. Whales play near the shore. A cairn left by Amundsen in 1912 is found. Supplies are loaded on the Floyd Bennett. Shows the plane aloft. Reel 8, a sled party rests at the base of the Queen Maude Mountains. Shows the Floyd Bennett aloft and aerial views of the route to the Pole. The Floyd Bennett lands at Little America after the flight. Reel 9, a large number of penguins play. Dog sleds cross the ice. A Fairchild plane lands near a wrecked Fokker plane. The City of New York returns to Little America and is greeted by Adm. Byrd and party.
